Research of CDE is connected to interdisciplinary research priority areas of the UvA. CDE also participates in international research schools.

Research Priority Areas

  • Yield

The Child Development and Education research programmes participate in the recently awarded research priority area Yield, managed by the Research Institute of Child Development and Education.

Yield conducts multidisciplinary research on the bioecology of human development, from infancy to young adulthood, with perspectives from Medicine, Psychology, Pedagogics, Education, Communication, Economics, and Psychometrics.

  • Brain and Cognition

Developmental Psychopathology research participates in the interdisciplinary UvA research priority area Brain and Cognition, called ‘Individual differences in the early development of inter-modal learning: interactions between cognitive, emotional, and neural mechanisms’ together with the research groups of developmental psychology and language sciences.

The goal of this research programme is to study the development of categorization learning, which suggest that infants can form conceptual representations with an all-or-none (i.e., non-incremental) learning process, in neutral and evolutionary relevant domains such as fear learning.

  • Urban Studies

Educational sciences participates in the interdisciplinary UvA research priority area Urban Studies. This research programme focuses on the relationship between multiple diversities and the multifaceted urban environment. Social scientists, geographers and planners are involved.
