  • Profile

Sharon Calor (1965) is guest researcher (PhD student) at the Research Institute of Child Development and Education (University of Amsterdam). She also teaches mathematics education at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and mathematics at the Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer.

Her research interests are in the areas of students’ learning, mathematical reasoning, mathematical level-raising, development of learning materials, scaffolding of small groups and teachers’ professional development.

Sharon started her career as a computer programmer at the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) in Amsterdam where she developed advanced simulation solutions for complex mathematical systems on a supercomputer. She started teaching (2008) in Amsterdam at a secondary school during her Masters in Mathematics Education (University of Amsterdam, 2008) and received her first degree teaching certificate in 2010.

In 2012 she was granted a PhD scholarship for teachers (Promotiebeurs voor Leraren) and was considered an excellent candidate by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
