RICDE focuses on interdisciplinary research across areas such as child development, educational effectiveness, and inclusive education.

The Research Institute of Child Development and Education (RICDE) is part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. Dedicated to advancing knowledge on the development, learning, and well-being of children, the institute integrates cutting-edge research with real-world applications to impact education and care.

Advancing research on child development and education

Our researchers explore questions like how children grow and learn, the role of teachers and caregivers, and the impact of societal factors on development. The institute collaborates with schools, policymakers, and international organisations to translate findings into actionable solutions, shaping policies and practices that improve educational systems and the lives of young people globally.

Longitudinal child development studies

As part of the University of Amsterdam, one of Europe’s leading research universities, RICDE benefits from a diverse and international academic environment. It supports both fundamental and applied research, with projects ranging from longitudinal studies on child development to interventions aimed at enhancing classroom learning.
